Layout
The Objects View is the window that appears initially in the upper-right quadrant of the screen. You use it primarily for choosing objects such as trees, houses and rocks and placing them on your course.
The Objects View has three panes. A hierarchical text listing of all the objects is in the left-hand pane. Thumbnail pictures of objects are in the top-right pane, and full pictures of objects appear in the bottom-right pane. Standard scroll bars may appear in the left and top-right panes if those areas contain more information than can currently be displayed.
To adjust the size of these different panes, pass your mouse over the border between panes until the cursor changes to a double line with arrows. Click and drag the borders to change the pane size.
Listings
In the hierarchical listing, clicking on a category's name (such as Plants) will expand the listing to show you all the objects in that category (trees, bushes, flowers) available for use.
In addition, a series of thumbnail pictures representing each of those objects will appear in the top-right pane. You can use the scroll bars, if necessary, to see all the objects.
When the listing is expanded to show all the objects, each object shows its number of instances -- that is, how many copies of that object are currently placed on the course.
Clicking on an object in this upper pane, or on its listing in the hierarchy, will show you a larger picture of it in the lower-right pane, as well as highlight the object's listing in the left-hand pane.
Under very specific circumstances, it's possible to add new objects of your own to this library. See Add Object... for more details.
To place an object on your course, double-click on its listing or picture in any of the three Object panes, or right-click on its listing and choose Place Object from the pop-up menu. Then click in either the Camera View or the Top View. (The Camera View is usually better, because it lets you see the object in its new surroundings immediately. The Top View is occasionally useful because it lets you place an object in a spot that's not currently visible in your camera.) A new object will be placed every time you click on the course until you click the Default Cursor button or some other tool.
To place many objects at a time, it may be faster and more efficient to use the Place Objects Tool.
You can change the bitmap for any of the objects in your course's library, as well as its default size. For tees, you can choose which of the four sets on your course (black, blue, white and red) will be represented by the given image. For plants, you can specify the dimensions of the "hit rectangle" -- that is, the area where a ball is considered to have hit the tree and bounced, instead of just going past it.
To edit an object, right-click on its individual designation in the heirarchical listing and choose Edit Object... from the pop-up menu. This will open the Edit Object wizard that will take you step-by-step through the process.
Bitmap
The first thing you get to change is the bitmap associated with this particular object. You can browse through the bitmaps you have until you come up with one you like better (or type in its name and path, if you know it). Its new picture will appear below its name. If you decide you liked the old one better after all, click Reset.
Default Size
How big do you want the object to be?You can control the default size of this object (in feet) by typing a new number between 1 and 100 in the box or moving the slider left or right. This is only the default size, remember; you can still resize objects using other controls.
Hit Rectangle
If the object you're editing is a plant, you have the option of deciding how large a hit rectangle you want it to have. The larger the hit rectangle, the harder it will be to hit a ball past the object. You can alter the size of the hit rectangle by dragging the edges of the white rectangle around on the bitmap of the object.
Tee Color
If the object you want to edit is one of the four tees, you'll be offered the choice of which of the four tee sets (black, blue, white or red) you want the new bitmap to replace.
You can take an object that you're using on this course and export it to one of your object libraries so you can use it on other courses as well. Right-click on the object's individual listing and choose Export Object... from the pop-up menu. The Export Object wizard will take you step-by-step through the process.
You can delete from your library plants and miscellaneous objects that you're not using, and make the size of your files considerably smaller. Simply click on the unwanted object's individual listing and press the Delete key, or right-click on the listing and choose Delete Object from the pop-up menu.
If you used any copies of that object in your course, all those instances will disappear when the object is no longer in the library.
